WLS Farm Progress Show.  Prod. Kelli Hix, Country Music Hall of Fame. 26min.
Archival. 1953, 1955, 2012. Armstrong & Belvidere, IL.
This MOS footage, preserved by the moving image archive at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville documents the first and third years of the Farm Progress Show. Shot in beautiful, saturated Kodachrome 16mm, it provides a clear vision of a time in which technology was changing rural lifestyles; radio and television spread music and news, and new farming equipment changed the structure of agriculture.

2-THIRDS-GOAT

Astoria’s own 2/3 Goat will kick out a melding of alt-country, bluesy bluegrass and classic rock that echo the core members’ diverse roots: Annalyse descended directly from the infamous McCoys of E. Kentucky, and Ryan comes deeply rooted in the S. Jersey shore beach culture. They were chosen as one ofthe top 10 bands out of over 3,500 to perform in The Outlaw Roadshow at SXSW 2013.

Located in the southern back country of Astoria, Queens, The Strand Smokehouse is a Meat Lovin’, Beer Drinkin’, Whiskey Shootin’ paradise. All of their meat is smoked to perfection (they promise, a guy from Texas told ‘em so) and their bartenders sling only the most refreshing craft beers, and casked bourbon in a beer hall atmosphere.  Strand_logo_pig-WEB
